Two Flowers, Under Two Different Suns

Two Flowers, Under Two Different Suns

I lost a brother that I never had.
This brother was never mine to keep.

We were both forced to hate
The different side of the same coin,
Until the bond was lost somewhere across the void—
A gap that can no longer be filled.

But once, we were both flowers growing in the same garden,
Just under different suns.
His sun was bright, full of admiration and love,
While mine was dark, cold, and bitter.
He bloomed under warmth,
While I absorbed the hate of the world—
Though we both craved the same water.

I chased, I crawled, I cared to be the elder for you,
But somehow that only made you even more distant.
And you, my kin, my dear—
The one who was closest to my heart—
Never missed your chances to ridicule and mock me.

But have no fear, my brother, my dear,
Trustworthy first-thrower of stones—you win.
I will no longer try to catch up to you.
In the end, you got what you always wanted.

We both could have been kings in each other’s stories,
And the only tragedy here was your unconscious effort to dethrone me—
Even while I treated you like the guest of honor
At the celebrations of my joys and my sorrows.

After grinding through both heaven and hell,
You still believe you fly high above me.
But the bitter truth?
What hurts you most is not my failure—
It’s my happiness.
And your exclusion from it
Feels to you like ridicule.

Now I’m in a much happier place—
I’ve found my own warmth, because I found my own sun.
And my only regret is that, despite doing my best,
I can no longer share my happiness with the brother I lost—
The brother I never truly had.

Still, I hold on to hope—that despite our shared mistakes,
The wounds, the words, the battles we can’t unmake,
The clash of swords, the anger, the screams—
You will thrive, you will chase your own dreams.
Build your own kingdom, while laughing in joy,
Even forgetting how I once fixed your toys,
In a forgotten world that no longer belongs to us.

The brother I lost—
The brother I never truly had.
